Green Flower explores the balance and integration of the figurative and abstract pattern. A small Japanese girl is positioned against a spotted, cartoon-like background intended to reinforce the many aspects of what it is to be a small child: wonderment, unreality and a certain vulnerability. The spots are also being used to represent Japanese mon (heraldic crests) a reference to the child’s cultural background.
