Josephine’s Drawing

53 x 38cm, mixed media on paper
Picasso, after viewing a collection of children’s drawings, said: "When I was their age I could draw like Raphael, but it took me a lifetime to learn to draw like them.” It is this sentiment that serves as the starting point for Josephine’s Drawing. It is also a simple study of the hierarchy within drawing, with the child’s work depicted in colour to lend it greater status than the tightly controlled, pencil portrait it sits within.
