Second commission of two for this family, the subject is situated on her stairs, where she gazes at a portrait of her young son (First commission). It was important for this painting to have an air of contentment, a young mother caught in a moment of reflection on her life at home. This small work is one of a few ‘cabinet painting’ portraits that I have made.
